Back in June 2024, Def Leppard released a new single called “Just Like ’73” and it was in support of any album. In fact, not sure if this will be on a new album or if this was simply a new song to support their Summer Stadium Tour. Whatever the reason, I’ll always take a new single. This one came out on the Streaming services, but physically you could get it on 7″ Single or on a CD Single that I believe was only available in Japan. The vinyl was released on August 2, 2024

The 7″ Single came in two colors. You got your standard black vinyl or a bright sky blue color. And if you can’t decide which one, do like me and buy both. I still need the CD single though as it didn’t come out the same time as the vinyl, I don’t believe or I would’ve bought it.

The single comes with two tracks and both the same song…however…one is slightly different. How so? The main single released has guest guitarist Tom Morello joining in on the fun. The flip side is simply Def Leppard. Can you tell the difference? Honestly, not really that much. The only difference is Morello does the solo on the first track, not the second. And it didn’t blow me away as to why have him. Don’t get me wrong, I think Tom is awesome. I simply don’t care for Leppard collaborating with anyone. Personal preference. The song though is fantastically fun!!

The song was originally demoed during 2022’s ‘Diamond Star Halos’ but never finished. It is throwback to the Glam Rock era of the 70’s as the band is so fond of that style of music. I mean, have you heard any of their more recent albums, they don’t hide that fact at all. I love the chorus with the Slade-style shouting backing vocals. The beat is bouncy, energetic and would make a great song to hear at a live show! It has that anthem-like feel to it.

“Just Like ’73” is pure glam magic and is pretty much where the band is today in 2024 (2025 now that I’m writing this). Their last album ‘Diamond Star Halos’ was very glam-like as well. And I don’t mind. I love that type of music. Not sure it was necessary to have Tom Morello in it, but whatever they want to do is fine. I do really like the song and I’d give it a 4.0 out of 5.0 Stars. It is a lot of fun. Now, we need a whole new album from the boys!! Will it be in 2025 or 2026? Don’t know yet, but anything is possible.
THE END!!!
And there you have it! That is the END of the Def Leppard Collection Series as I haven’t added anything new to the collection lately and they haven’t released anything since this single. But I am sure that will happen and we will continue to write posts over time. Plus, if I find anything vintage from the band I don’t have, I’ll add that to the series as well. So, it isn’t really the end, simply an end for now. Thanks for hanging around these 18+ months as we’ve done one a week for like 79 weeks. That is a long time.

Glad they put out PHYSICAL music (ahem Stand By Me) but I don’t care for this song. Doesn’t surprise me it was an outtake from DSH.

I’ve been in to the Glam stuff lately so this was cool for me. But i get it.

I’m very sick of that whole glam thing right now, but Ghost may invigorate it. We’ll see. Right now I’m on an Aussie kick. Rose Tattoo. Buffalo Crowes. My goodness!

I like this song and if they don’t put anything else out ever again, which they most likely will, it would be a decent one to go out on.

Sadly, they did put something else out, but not in physical form. They covered “Stand By Me” for some TV show or something.

I get the impression that you’re not too keen on it.

Nope. Haven’t even listened to it. It isn’t physical so not worth my time.

Congrats on finishing up this massive series! What an undertaking dude to say the least. haha. The packing for this is cool but I think I streamed the tune once so I guess a revisit is in order. Wish they would also lock it off with the special guest thing as its not really doing anything sales wise…my 2 cents haha

Thanks man! And yes, the special guest thing needs to end! Give me Lep and only Lep.

That was quite the undertaking. I hope you were able to step back and take a deep breath after all of it!
I like the song. It’s the first time I hear it.

Yeah, I will admit it was. It was tough as I was in major burnout mode by the end. Glad it is done. No more Series for a little while. Need to take break from that type of undertaking.

Yeah, the Tom Morello collaboration was not necessary. The song is perfectly fine without him. Great song with a big anthemic feel to it and Joe sounds great! As for “Stand by Me,” I love the orchestral instrumentation and thought it was a nice throwback to when Phil, Sav, and Steve performed it with Ben E. King in 1988. Of course, anything that reminds me of Steve, I love!

I haven’t listened to Stand by Me yet. I’m in no rush. If they release a physical version, I’d happily buy it, but don’t care for the digital only release.

I get it. I think the single is nice for the LA wildfires, but I don’t want them to put it on their new album they’re working on because they already did a covers album. I want original music!

You’d be proud of me after hearing that I just scored bunch of BJ cd singles and Def Leppard 2 disc single on cd.
I got Def Leppard: Now 2 disc single. I already had 1 disc version of this.
Then I got BJ: Everyday, Hey god, Keep the faith and lie to me cd singles. I also got Jon Bon Jovi: Janie, don’t take your love to town and Queen of New Orleans.
I wasn’t aware that there are different versions with different extra songs of most these. I bet you knew that.
