My Sunday Song – “Justice” by Rev Theory

For My Sunday Song #436, we are going hard & heavy with “Justice” by Rev Theory. The song was the first single from the album of the same name. The single came out on October 25, 2010 and went to #17 on the U.S. Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks while the album went to #75 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The song is credited to the whole band which would include singer Rich Luzzi, bass player Matty McCloskey, guitarists Julien Jorgensen & Rikki Lixx and Dave Agoglia on drums. There are few others included as well as you will see at the bottom of the lyrics. The song was even licensed to be used on WWE’s Extreme Rules in 2011.

The song is a strong, powerful statement on standing up for oneself. Challenge the injustices you see in society. Everyone has faced some form of injustice and we should stand up and reclaim what is rightfully ours. It is a rebellious track with hints at fighting back and getting vindication. Right now there is so much injustice going on and I wonder how long before we all stand up and fight back against the perpetrators whether through our votes, our voice or something worst. 15 years after this song was written and I still feel is very relevant.

Musically, hold on to your hat. Not only is the message powerful, but the music is as relentless. The drums are destructive, the guitars are lethal and full of rage while the bass is the heartbeat of power driving the song forward. The guitar has a little Rage sound to it as if Morello was doing it. And Rich’s vocals are strong, loud, gritty and so serious. When he screams out the chorus, you feel he means every word he is spouting. The catchiness of that chorus reverberates in your head and it gets stuck there. There is so much rage, be careful if you listen to this song while you are driving because I can see foot to the floor speeding happening as it happened to me (no ticket thankfully).

The Top 20 Rock Songs of 2016

Welcome to the Top 20 Rock Songs of 2016.  These songs are my favorite songs of the year and were not necessarily played on the radio or even shot up the charts.  They just moved me in some way good or bad!

If you missed the Top Rock Albums of 2016 or the Top Albums of 2016 (that were not Rock), just click on the link and go check them out.

It is time to start the list so here we go…

20. “Parasite (feat. John 5)” by Ace Frehley off the album ‘Origins, Vol. 1’:  I wouldn’t pick a covers song for this list if this one wasn’t so damn good.  John 5 on guitar is amazing and since this is an old Kiss song it is perfect for Ace.  I think it sounds better than the original.

19. “Raise Hell” by Dorothy off the album ‘RockisDead’:  This bluesy gem from Dorothy has such a great sound and Dorothy’s vocals are perfect for this style.  I expect big things from this band!

The Top Rock Albums of 2016

2016 is about to be over so it is time to look back on the year and see what amazing albums rocked my world this year.  It was a great year indeed.  This was the year I started this blog back in April and it has been a blast. I have listened to a lot of albums this year so I had stuff to write about and it really made the year special.

This list will be my favorite “Rock” albums of the year.  All other types of music will be for a later post.  I am going to leave this one to my favorite genre.  It is a broad genre, but these are the albums that I consider to be ROCK!!

Also note, these are MY FAVORITES!!  These are not the most popular or possibly even the ones that have sold the most.  These are the albums that I connected with during the year and kept coming back to again and again.  And without further adieu, here are the Top Rock Albums of 2016:

My #1 Album of the Year:

219285

Hellyeah – UnDen!able (Eleven Seven Music):  This album screams Rock & Roll to me!  It is heavy and pounding with aggressive vocals and lyrics and was perfect for me when I got stuck in traffic and needed to vent a little.  With songs like “Startariot”, “X”, “Scratch A Lie” and “Be Undeniable”, I was completely satisfied with this gem.  Check out the review at this link to see what I thought in detail about the album.

Friday New Releases – September 9th

September has an incredible number of new releases coming out and today is the start of it all.  There is now way humanly possible to get through all of them and I am not going to try.  I will miss out on a lot of great stuff, but each week there is going to be too much to get through.  I would have to quit my paying job and then do this full time (which doesn’t pay)…not going to happen, but wish it could.

The ones in Blue are the ones I will make every effort to listen to and enjoy!  Which ones are you looking forward to hearing?

  • 61E1lss9nGL._AC_US160_  Rev Theory – Revelation – (Another Record Co):  I like it loud and heavy and that is what I expect I will get with Rev Theory’s new release.  I have thoroughly enjoyed their prior releases and what I hear so far sounds great.  Give them a listen.

Road Rage – Playlist

Everyone gets Road Rage at some time in their driving life. It is unavoidable. Sitting in Atlanta traffic or even Charlotte traffic now can raise your blood pressure. And how many times have you just wanted to ram your car right into the asshole that just cut you off or rode your bumper. I have too many times to count. When I get that feeling, I have a playlist that I have to put on that will let me just vent my frustration and anger. Maybe you can try it out.

Five Finger Death Punch – “Under And Over It”

Texas Hippie Coalition – “Turn It Up”
