Happy Friday! or is it?? There is nothing that is tickling my fancy this week. Well maybe, the Yo Yo Ma, but that is really it. Hopefully there is something for you. Since there is nothing for me, I will leave you with at least videos for all of these so you can if it is something you like. Hopefully next week offers more. Let me know what interests you, if any, and let me know what I missed because maybe it will be something I like.
Have a great weekend!!

Vinyl, Vinyl, Vinyl…I keep getting more and more and I get more addicted to wanting more and more. My wife shakes her head and just sighs at this point. I guess I could be drinking, smoking or doing drugs, but thankfully that is not the case. If I did those things, I would consume everything and I would just be throwing money away. With the vinyl purchases, I at least could sell them if I ran out of money, so it is an investment…yeah, let’s go with that!!
There is a friend at work that her husband has 2 big crates of vinyl in their closet and she wants them out of the house. So before they took them somewhere to sell them, she gave me first crack at going through them and letting me pick out the ones I want first. I gave her a fair price (more than any record store would give her, even more than they would in store credit).
The crates were very heavy and full of vinyl. My wife said I should take them upstairs in the Loft and sit with the family while I went through them. I declined as they were too dang heavy and I didn’t want to tackle the stairs with them. Instead, I stayed downstairs for a couple hours and slowly went through the collection.
The collection consisted of albums from the late 50’s all the way up to the late 80’s. Each crate was sort of themed. The one crate was from the 50’s-70’s and it was all her husband’s parents vinyl. It had stuff I had never heard of and a lot I had. There was Elvis, Liberace (I passed on those), Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, the Kingston Trio and I could go on and on.

It is the last Friday of the month and even the last day of the month. There are over 20 albums on the list today including from some old times like Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan up to newcomers like La’Porsha Renae and Jackie Evancho (ok, she isn’t that new, but she is young). There are also quite a couple 90’s artists back such as Jamiroquai and Ice T’s Body Count. Only a few I am really interested in hearing right away and they are highlighted in Blue. I hope there is something on this list that will brighten your day. Friday new releases are just a great way to end a busy week.
- Brother Firetribe – Sunbound – (Spinefarm): Yes, I know this album came out last week, but I had excluded it from the list for some strange reason. I wanted to highlight the release so I added it to this week’s new releases…Brother Firetribe comes to us from the great country of Finland. They are a hard rock and AOR band and is a 5 piece band. ‘Sunbound’ is their fourth release and after three previously stellar releases, I am looking forward to more magic from this band.
- Mastodon – Emperor of Sand – (Reprise Records): Mastodon is heavy metal band from Atlanta, Georgia where I lived for 45 years prior to moving to Charlotte. These guys are heavy metal and deliver the heavy to the extremes. They are unlike most bands I listen to and it is nice to change it up a little. I have followed their career for awhile and can’t wait to give a listen.

It is Thanksgiving time here in the States and I definitely have a lot to be thankful for. In celebration of this wonderful Holiday, here are a collection of songs about giving thanks or at least things we should be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and thank you for taking the time to stop by and check out the blog. It is much appreciated.
“Thank You For Loving Me” by Bon Jovi off the album ‘Crush’. If you have that special someone, make sure to tell them Thank You for being a part of your life and for loving you for you. If you don’t have that special someone, I love you!! So you are welcome!!
“Give Thanks And Praise” by Bob Marley off the album ‘Confrontation’. Actually not a bad way to start everyday by giving thanks for waking up and giving praise to our maker.
