Happy Friday!! Well, aren’t all Fridays Happy. Especially when you have new music to hear. This week we have a ton of new albums for you to peruse. And hopefully, you will find something you like. There are a couple I want to hear this week, first and foremost, the new Brittany Howard. What a powerhouse singer she is and her work with Alabama Shakes was nothing short of amazing. The other I’ll check it is the new Revolution Saints. I like Deen Castronovo on vocals so I’ve enjoyed these albums. What do you want to hear this week? What did we miss? Let me know. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

Not as many as last week, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find something hear to listen to. I think I am going to check out the Paul McCartney release, but other than that, that is it for me. What do you want to listen to his week? Let me know if we missed anything. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Welcome back to Friday New Releases and we have our first BIG release of the year with the new Green Day album called ‘Saviors’. That is pretty much the only one I’m interested in hearing even though I haven’t cared too much for the last few releases but you never know. I also see that Jeremy Renner has a new album and honestly, didn’t know he sang. I thought he was only an actor. I’m a little intrigued. I’m sure it was heavily influenced by his accident so we will see. Other than that, that is it for me. Let me know what you want to hear or if we missed anything. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a great weekend.
Green Day – Saviors – (Reprise Records)
Jeremy Renner – Love And Titanium – (Record Street Music)
Welcome to the first Friday New Releases post of 2024. As you should know, the new releases start out slow at the beginning of the year, but they will pick up so don’t you worry your pretty little head over it. We have a handful of releases for you so hopefully you can find something to listen to this week. For me, I’m going to check out the Tracii Guns and Jack Russell release as that sounds like an interesting pairing and heck, the cover is enough to grab you anyway. Other than that, that is pretty much it for me. Let me know what you want to hear this week and what we may have missed.
Jack Russell & Tracii Guns – Medusa – (Frontiers Records)
Neal Morse – The Restoration: Joseph, Pt. 2 (Frontiers Records)
Jim Peterik & World Stage – Roots & Shoots, Vol. 1 – (Frontiers Records)
2024 is upon us and it is always fun anticipating what new albums will come out in the year. Since today would normaly be a Friday New Release post, let’s look at the new releases coming our way in 2024. There are quite a few we already know about, but some haven’t been officially announced or even a date set yet.
Last year, there were a few artist I was hoping would release an album that might have or might not have released one. It is always fun to hope for new music from these bands, but sometimes there are disappointments. Here are the ones I was hoping to get new albums from last year and what actually happened…
Def Leppard – Too soon for a new album, but give us The Collection Vol. 4!! We still didn’t get The Collection Vol. 4, but we got a new album…sort of. We got ‘Drastic Symphonies’ which was a compilation with a symphony orchestra added and no, not good.
Kiss – I will keep this on the list until I die!! At least give us another Soundboard LP. We did get a new Soundboard LP, but only one this year and for the Poughkeepsie show in 1984 with Mark St. John and that is really cool!!
Guns ‘N Roses – Rumors, Rumors, Rumors!! Will we ever get a new album! Nope, but some singles…nothing yet.
Aldo Nova – He keeps talking about a 2CD set for over 3 years and still nothing much, but will he get around to releasing the full Life & Times of Eddie Gage? I hope so. And again, more talk but no 2 CD album for The Life & Times of Eddie Gage…when Aldo? When? But he did start touring again.
Ace Frehley – It is time for a new album…no Origins, Vol 3…a new album!! No new album, but one was announced and will be here in early 2024!! YEAH!!
Bon Jovi – A new album WITH RICHIE SAMBORA!!! Nope, still nothing. A lot of talk about a Reunion, but no new album. Something’s brewing though as their 40th Anniversary gets ready to roll around.
Okay, are there albums I want to see this year from some of my favorite bands that haven’t been announced or in some cases even rumored? Of course there are. These are the bands I want new albums from this year…but it might not happen.
Def Leppard – It is time for The Collection Vol. 4!! Come on boys, give it to us!! Or a new album…whichever you want.
Kiss – I will keep this on the list until I die!! Time to start up more Soundboard LPs or another box set…give us something!
Guns ‘N Roses – Rumors, Rumors, Rumors!! Will we ever get a new album!
Aldo Nova – He keeps talking about a 2CD set for over 3 years and still nothing much, but will he get around to releasing the full Life & Times of Eddie Gage? I hope so.
Bon Jovi – A new album WITH RICHIE SAMBORA!!!
Robbie Williams – Hey Robbie, time for a new pop album…no more Trance please!!
From what I have gathered around the internet, here are the bands that should have new albums out in 2024 or are rumored, but no dates announced yet. The ones I would give a try will be highlighted in Blue. The ones with Dates Announced are at the bottom of this post. The list is building up nicely!!
While I was recording a show on Grant’s Rock Warehaus, we were discussing the Billy Idol Chrysalis Years and as I was gathering my vinyl for that show, I realized that I was missing the ‘Idol Songs: 11 of the Best’ from my collection. I could’ve sworn I had bought that one before as I remember holding it in my hand at one time. But, I apparently didn’t buy it. So, I told Grant I would remedy that situation and so I head over to discogs to see if I could get one and what the best one to get. Well, it turned out the best version to get was the UK 1988 version which came with a 12″ Limited 4 Track E.P. exclusive to this set. Sold. I bought it from someone in Sweden and a week later, it was in my hands. It still had the stickers on the front and back cover talking about the 12″ Exclusive 4 Track E.P. and it was in pristine shape.
The album was released on June 20, 1988 on Chrysalis Records and contains 11 tracks from his first three studio albums as well as the E.P. and includes a live version of “Mony, Mony” which wiki says comes from the ‘Don’t Stop’ E.P. but my E.P. does not have a live version, it is the studio track. You can get another limited edition version with 2 bonus tracks, but why do that when you get one like I have with the the 4 bonus tracks. The album went to #2 on the UK Charts and was certified Platinum. I don’t really remember this album here in the States as it came out after Vital Idol and I felt that was pushed way more than this compilation. But I have one now, so all is good. In 2003, they did reissue this album with a different cover and called it ‘Essentials’…I like my version better.
The opening track is the title song “Rebel Yell” which actually opened the ‘Rebel Yell’ album. It is a scorcher of a song, high energy and attitude. The opening of the song is all done with the guitar even though it sounds like both a guitar and a keyboard. Steve is showing off right out of the gate. Vocally, Billy is on fire and you can see his lip curling up while he is signing which is amazing as it is on vinyl. “Rebel Yell” was actually inspired by the Rolling Stones according to Billy on VH1 Storytellers. Billy was at a party thrown by the Stones and everyone was drinking Rebel Yell Bourbon Whiskey. I guess he loved that whiskey (along with a lot of drugs at the time).
Welcome to the final Friday New Release Post!! Well, the last one of 2023 at least. We will be back around January 12, 2024 with the first of 2024. For now, we only have a handful of releases for you and one cool Super Deluxe Set from The Black Crowes for ‘The Souther Harmony And Musical Companion’ album. That is the one I want. Hopefully you can find something that you will like and let us know what it might be. Also, let us know if we missed anything that people should know about.
