Y&T – “All American Boy” – 7″ Single

While on vacation this Summer, I came across a single for a band that did not get enough love. The band is Y&T and the single was for “All American Boy”. The song is a cover and was written by Dave Robbins and Van Stephenson. I believe it was first recorded by Stan Bush in 1983 on his self-titled album. Van had recorded this song and it appeared on the soundtrack to the movie “The Slugger’s Wife” back in 1984/1985. Y&T got ahold of the song in 1985 as well and it was included on their album ‘Down for the Count’ with quite possibly one of the worst album covers ever as you can see below for the back cover of the single. A funny enough, the front cover of the single is taken from the back cover of the album. The song went to #48 on the mainstream rock chart.

It was the the first single off the album, but for me not a great song choice to start with a cover. It was probably a label decision, who knows, but singer/guitarist Dave Meniketti, guitarists Joey Alves, bassist Phil Kennemore and drummer Leonard Haze deserved better. The had never recorded a cover song prior and they did two on this album…definitely label pressure. The follow-up single did much better which was their big single “Summertime Girls”. Y&T is a very underrated band. If you want to learn a lot about their albums, check out Tim Durling’s book ‘Down for the Count: The Y&T Album Review’ on Amazon.

The Collection: Ep. 8 – ‘Down For The Count: The Y&T Album Review’ by Tim Durling

We are excited to announce that this week’s episode has a very special guest and friend to 2 Loud 2 Old Music as we interview author Tim Durling. You know Tim from his YouTube channel, Tim’s Vinyl Confessions, and you will love it as we discuss his new book called ‘Down for the Count: The Y&T Album Review’. The book walks through all the details of the band’s studio albums and we discuss that as well as where Tim got the idea and how the amazing artist Hugh Syme came about doing the cover of the book.

Tim has some great stories and we even talk about why we think Y&T didn’t make it to the A list of rock bands in the 80’s. A lot of missteps along the way and not the band’s fault…in my opinion at least. They had the songs, they had the guitars, they had it all…what happened??? We also talk about Sean Kelly who does the foreward and mention a lot of the guest that are in the book…including yours truly!! Me!!

Come join Tim Durling and I in this fantastic discussion on ‘Down for the Count: The Y&T Album Review’ tonight at 8pm on April 8th, 2024 on YouTube. Click the link below. Don’t forget to hit Subscribe and Like and please leave a comment. Thanks and have great day!!

The Collection: Episode 2 – February 2024 Wrap-Up

We are doing something different this time around and going to do the wrap-up in video form. So, if you want to see everything and hear a little more discussion on the items, go check out the video. It will air tonight at 7pm on Youtube.

You’ll get some of the usual suspects like Kiss, Aerosmith, Needtobreathe, AC/DC and so much more. And I think I hit almost every format this month with vinyl, CD, Cassettes and even an 8-Track. No reel-to-reels though so not every format.

Ok, I won’t leave you empty handed in…here is everything in one shot…almost everything as the big box of Needtobreathe collectibles I bought we covered in Episode 1 so didn’t want to repeat anything…

Please check out the shot at 7pm tonight, Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Thanks for stopping by!!

Episode 46:  Down For the Count with Tim Durling and Friends

The very first Y&T book is out!  Down For the Count:  The Y&T Album Review is the name of the book, and you can get yours on Amazon right now.

Joining us this week is series regular, and now author of two books, Tim Durling!  Why Y&T?  Why a book about this band, and their discography?   It is true that Y&T never made the impact that they seemed destined for.  We’ll discuss this and much more:  the nuts and bolts of publishing a rock book and assembling the cast of characters who helped along the way.

Speaking of characters, co-hosting this week will be book contributors John T. Snow and Jex Russell.  How did they get involved, and what was their part to play?  How did Tim get Sean Kelly and Hugh Syme to contribute?  Find out tonight, and by all means pick up this excellent book today.

Welcome to the final Purchases Wrap-Up of 2023 and we will go out with a bang. This month saw a trip to New York City to see the final Kiss show so of course we hit some record stores while there. It also saw Christmas and my Birthday so a lot of good stuff came my way. The month started off with the Kiss show and if you want to see all the Kiss stuff go read the review HERE!!!. Here, we will show the purchases I made while in New York. We hit four record stores and bought from three of them. First up is a couple from the first store and found the debut Kix album and Maneskin’s new one on vinyl. Good stuff…

And at the next one, we found a couple Whitesnake bootlegs of a couple radio broadcasts. And these are early 80’s which is the best stuff…

And I picked up a couple CDs as well including Eric Singers ESP album signed by Eric…

‘Down For The Count: The Y&T Album Review’ By Tim Durling

If you are a Y&T fan or you know a Y&T fan, this book is for you. My buddy, Tim Durling, has released his 2nd book which talks about all the Y&T albums. I received my copy and I can’t wait to dive and read it. If you need a great Christmas gift idea, this is it. Got to Amazon.com and buy a copy now. You won’t be disappointed. I mean, look at that cover…it is awesome. It was designed by the great Hugh Syme who is one of Canada’s premier graphic artist. You also have a forward by Sean Kelly who you know as the guitarist for Lee Aaron, Nelly Furtado, Helix and Crash Kelly to name a few.

And as a bonus, you get me, John T. Snow as one of the contributors to the book. What more could you want. Ok, you do get Martin Popoff, Pete Pardo, Mike Ladano and a ton of other great people which is probably a better reason, but you know, I’m not bad either!!!
