Car Ride – Summer Playlist

I took last week off from work to spend time with my family.  I always look forward to time off and the memories we will make during that time off.  Whenever we go on a car trip, we always put together a playlist for the car ride.  This playlist was 49 songs (why we didn’t round up to 50, I do not know) and was 2 hours and 59 minutes long.  Which was perfect for our 3 hour car ride to the beach.

Most of the songs are songs my kids really like and are very popular on the radio. However, I did throw in a couple of my current favorites without their knowledge.  It was funny listening to them go, “What is this song?  Skip it!!”.  Of course, I said no.  I threw on a song off Candlebox’s new album and one from The Defiants.

I thought I would shorten the list to a manageable playlist and let you get a taste for what my kids are enjoying right now.  I have to admit, a lot of these I am enjoying right now as well.

Happy 4th of July – Is it time for another Revolution?

I am not usually political, but I feel this country is screwed no matter who gets elected.  I am not partial to Trump or Clinton.  I think they both suck!!  Since we are celebrating the birthday of our country, I thought I would do a playlist of songs about Revolution rather than going all patriotic.

Something needs to change soon or I fear the country my children are growing up in will be worse off than it is now.  Patriotism doesn’t seem to be a word in anyone’s vocabulary anymore.  Being politically correct, has gone too far in the wrong direction.  Racism seems to be at an all time high, when it should be non-existent.

If you say something nowadays that doesn’t jive with how a handful of people feel is the correct way to think, you get bashed on the internet or blasted in the media or even fired from your job.  Since when does a person’s opinion deserve that treatment.  What happened to freedom of speech.

Memorial Day – Playlist

Memorial Day is a chance to honor our lost soldiers who served to protect us and make this country great.  If it wasn’t for their sacrifice, we would not have the freedoms we have today and not live in one of the greatest countries on Earth (despite our many problems).

Please remember why you have the day off from school & work.  It is not to grill out and hang out by the pool.  It is to remember those who have died and those families who had to sacrifice so much so you can grill out and hang out by the pool.

In honor of our lost soldiers, here is a playlist just for them.

“Brothers in Arms” by Dire Straits

Def Leppard – Deep Dive Playlist

Def Leppard is my all time favorite band. I have everything they have ever put out musically for both albums and DVDs.  I have seen them in concert at least 6 times, but I hate I missed their Las Vegas Viva Hysteria show (have it on DVD though but not the same).

They have 2 Diamond Albums (sold more than 10 million copies) – Pyromania and Hysteria.  I don’t think there are many bands that can say they even have one.  Everyone loves their songs “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and “Photograph” and I certainly do as well.

However, the reason I am a fan is because their non-single songs.  They can be just as good or even better than their singles.  We are going to dive into their Deep Cuts and I will let you know what I find to be their best Non-Singles.  I hope you enjoy.

Train – Top 20 Songs

Train holds a very special place in my heart.  Mainly due to the fact it is the one band my wife and I enjoy together.  We have seen them in concert at least 4 or 5 times and twice we took our kids.  For my wife and I, there is just something special about their songs and their music.

Train Meet & GreetWe like them so much we even paid for the Meet & Greet on one of their tours as an anniversary present for ourselves.  They were extremely pleasant and gracious.  If you haven’t seen them live, you must. Pat Monahan is a great frontman as he is energetic, funny and he makes you feel like you are part of the show.

We also like them because my brother-in-law was the recording engineer on their Drops of Jupiter album for which he received a Grammy nomination (he didn’t win).  Maybe I can get him to tell us about that experience for another time.

Music is Magic – Playlist

If you don’t believe magic is real, you haven’t really listened to music.  Music can instantly change your mood.  It can even let you travel through time by taking you back to a special memory.  Music can make you laugh, make you cry and make you feel so many different things.  It can make you dance and soothe your soul.

If that is not magical, then I don’t know what is.  In honor of all that, here are my favorite “magical” songs.  Sadly, there are so many songs to choose from, I ended up with a list that only covered the ’60’s – ’80’s.  I have to do another list for the ’90’s-’10’s.

“Do You Believe In Magic” – The Lovin’ Spoonful

DC Talk Side Projects – Playlist

In honor of a possible reunion of DC Talk (announcement coming tomorrow, Wednesday), I thought I would do a playlist of all the side projects the members of DC Talk have done outside of the band.  What exactly has Kevin Max, Tobymac and Michael Tait been up to when they weren’t a part of DC Talk?  Actually, quite a lot and there has been some exceptional music.

Kevin Max

We will start with Kevin Max.  Outside of DC Talk he has released 8 full length solo albums, numerous EPs, he was lead singer for one album with Audio Adrenaline and he has done countless collaborations with other artists.  These are my favorite Kevin Max songs:

Mother’s Day – Playlist

Alright, I am going to be cheesy and do a Mother’s Day Playlist.  These are all songs about, inspired by, or just mentions mom in some way.  In honor of all mothers that are still with us and those that have passed, Happy Mother’s Day.  The world would be even in worse shape if it wasn’t for Moms!!

Here we go, but I warn you the list is all over the place:
“I Wish I Was Your Mother” by Mott the Hoople

Women that Rock – Playlist

Most of the rock albums I have are sung by men.  However, there are a lot of great rock songs and albums with female lead singers.  I was sitting here listening to Janis Joplin and started thinking about who were some of my favorite female lead singers that could rock it out.  Below is my list of my favorite Women that Rock.

Here we go.

“Piece of My Heart” – Janis Joplin

Drinking Booze – Playlist

I will be honest, I am not a big drinker.  Doesn’t mean I won’t drink.  I choose not too most of the time as I never got a taste for it; however, Mondays make me want to drink.  Since I do love alcohol related songs, I figured this Monday needs a playlist of booze drinking songs.  There are so many which makes it hard to choose the best ones.

Here is my list of booze related songs that will hopefully help me make it through Monday.

Emphatic – “Put Down the Drink” from the album Damage

Hellyeah – “Alcohaulin’ Ass” from the album Hellyeah
