Friday New Releases – May 12, 2023

As the weather keeps heating up, so do the releases, but this week isn’t as hot as others as we only have around 30 for you. For me, it is a break week as there is nothing here I have to have which means I can catch up on all my recent purchases. But hopefully there is something for you as there are some popular picks this week with Lauren Daigle who has a great voice and the Jonas Brothers have a new. Belinda Carlisle has an E.P. that I believe was just released on vinyl at Record Store Day. Let me know what you want to hear this week or what we may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

The Original vs. The Cover – “Running Up that Hill”

For this month’s The Original Vs. Cover, we are going to talk about a song that became famous again because of a TV show 37 years after it’s release. The song is “Running Up That Hill” which was released way back in 1985 by Kate Bush. It did really well going to #30 on the Hot 100 Charts. Thanks to the show ‘Stranger Things’, that same song became a hit again in 2022 going all the way to #23 so it did a little better the second. Here’s the thing, I don’t remember this song back in 1985. Nope, first time I remember really hearing this song was back in 2016 when Norway’s Jorn Lande recorded the song for his covers album, 2016’s ‘Heavy Rock Radio’ which he released as a single. Now, it didn’t chart anywhere in the U.S., but that is the song I remember.

The song was written by Kate Bush is about the lack of understanding between men and women. They can’t really communicate with each other. At least not very well. It was like running up a hill that would never end. She imagined that if they made a deal with God, they could exchange places with each other and gain a better understanding of how the other half thinks.. The song was originally called “Deal With God” but record executives felt that some more religious companies might not like it much.

KATE BUSH:

Kate’s version is pure 80’s with the luscious keyboards, the electronic drums and everything about it screams 80’s to me. I would consider Kate’s version to be more art pop than new wave. It feels epic in styling, there is an urgency to it, a seriousness, a real dramatic tone to the song. The song feels like it is getting bigger and bigger as the music seems to get more intense as the drums beat a little harder, the vocals get a little more intense and then it slows down again. The keyboards have a cello sounding effect at times giving it a whole orchestration feel to it. Kate’s vocals are a little monotonous at times, and drone on although they are impactful at times also as I do feel the emotion she is feeling. There are lots of layers and added effects with her vocals as well making her her own background vocalist as well.

Friday New releases – May 5, 2023

Happy Friday and Happy Day After Star Wars Day. The Force is strong this week with new releases…yeah, that was pretty bad. But we do have a lot of new releases for you today and hopefully there is something for everyone. The only one I’m waiting on this week is Winger’s new one. Can’t wait for that to arrive today as I’m ready to crank that one. I am sure I’ll have to listen to Ed Sheeran’s new one as my kids tend to play him. Let me know what you want to hear this week and what we may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

Friday New Releases – April 28, 2023

How is we are already to the end of April…crazy. Well, things are starting to heat up here and definitely in the new releases. We get another Whitesnake Box Set and I am thrilled as Coverdale knows how to do these right. This one is on order and hopefully will arrive today. I’m also looking forward to Disciple and Colton Dixon who both are Christian artists just at each end of the spectrum…one metal, one pop. And that is it for me. What do you want to hear this week? Let me know what it is and what we may have missed even though we have around 45 release for you, we might’ve missed something. It happens. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Friday New Releases – April 14, 2023

Here we are! Another Friday of new releases and this week has a HUGE one with the new album from Metallica!! I will listen to it before I buy it as I’m not a massive Metallica fan, but I know a ton of you out there love them so they are first on the list. I am actually more interested in Jason Bieler’s new album from his project Jason Bieler & the Baron Von Bielski Orchestra. ‘Postcards from the Asylum’ is going to be an eclectic mix of adventurous songs and I can’t wait. My copy should be here soon and it will be signed by Jason!! I thought I wanted to hear the new Mike Tramp album but I can’t imagine he could do anything that would improve on those great White Lion songs. Anyway, that is enough about me. What do you want to hear this week? What did we miss? Let us know and as always thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Friday New Releases – April 7, 2023

Happy Friday! So glad you stopped by. We have a handful of releases for you this week. Not as many as most weeks, but, HEY!, any releases makes it a great Friday!! Right!?!? There are a couple I want to hear, most especially Kiss’ new Off the Soundboard from Poughkeepsie with Mark St. John…totally cool. And there is Linkin Park’s 20th Anniversary Edition of Meteora and the new Paul Gilbert (the guy can play a guitar!!) as well. Other than that, there isn’t really anything else. What are you interested in hearing this week and what we may have missed as it does happen (more than I’d like to admit). Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Friday New Releases – March 31, 2023

We are at the end of the month already. March just flew by and the April Showers are about to be upon us. Before we get to that, we have another stack of new releases for you and we are close to 40 this week so hopefully you will find something to listen to this week. Me, not so much. Nothing really excites me this week so I will try and do catch up on other things I’ve missed so far this year. Let me know what you want to hear this week or what we may have missed. Thanks for stopping by each and ever week and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

March 2023 Purchases – Vinyl & CDs

We are already at the end of March and can’t believe three months in to the year already as well. Time does fly. But it doesn’t fly fast enough that we can’t do a monthly summary of purchases here at 2 Loud 2 Old Music. And this month was another good one even though the vinyl purchases were down and overall purchases were down as well. I didn’t actually get out to a real record store this month so I will try and make up for that in April.

The month started off with Frontiers Records updating their $5 CD sale and adding a bunch more albums to the list. I, of course, took advantage of that sale. I was able to pick up albums from Inglorious, Night Ranger and Jorn as well as a live Blu-Ray from Dokken. All great stuff.

And then my wife and daughter wanted to go to 2nd & Charles as they had a book sale where you buy 5 books, you get 5 free…Sadly, there was not a CD sale at the time, but it didn’t stop me from picking up some great music while I was there. I did get 5 CDs, but since the next 5 weren’t free, I stuck with only my 5. I picked up some Metallica, Tesla, Halestorm, Aldo Nova (which I had already on vinyl) and the last great Queensryche album in my book, ‘Promised Land’.

Friday New Releases – March 24, 2023

Welcome to another Friday New Releases. We have a handful today, not as many as in week’s past, but they all can’t be fully loaded. This week I have a must have and it is on order but actually won’t arrive until May so streaming it will be. If you follow the site, you know I am a huge Needtobreathe fan and I love the vocal talents of lead singer Bear Rinehart. Bear has a side project / solo career with his project called Wilder Woods. This is their second album and I am looking forward to what he may have in store for me. I am sure I’ll check out Fall Out Boy and my kids might play that Luke Combs record so I’ll probably hear that one too. Let me know what you want to hear this week and what we may have missed. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!
