The Collection: Ep. 67 – Tim’s Vinyl Confessions – Inglorious ‘V’ Album Review

Do you know Inglorious? I am not sure enough people do, in my humble opinion. Fronted by powerhouse singer, Nathan James, Inglorious is a hard rock band (borderline metal) out of England that was formed in 2014. Through numerous line-up changes as Nathan cleaned house after the 3rd album was recorded but prior to its release (what, is he David Coverdale??), and again after the fourth, they are now back with a new line-up yet again…sort of. I say sort of because back is original bass player Colin Parkinson and man is he all over this album as he co-wrote the album with Nathan, he was the producer and that bass is the main focus on a lot of songs.

My Sunday Song – “Elvis on Velvet” by Stray Cats

For My Sunday Song #443, we are going full on Rockabilly with “Elvis on Velvet” by Stray Cats. The song was the first single off their 1992 album ‘Choo Choo Hot Fish’. By 1992, I didn’t even realize that Stray Cats were still an album and song producing entity. It wasn’t until I came across their 1997 greatest hits compilation, ‘Runaway Boys: A Retrospective ’81-’92’ that I ever heard this song. It was the last song on that compilation and when I heard I was blown away. I mean completely floored. I think I hit repeat on that one song for an hour (okay, maybe not, but it was a lot). The song didn’t chart nor the album, but the song might be my absolute favorite song by the band.

It was written by David Neuhauser, Monty Byrom and Tom Kimmel but I don’t think it is a cover. I believe the Stray Cats were the first to release it which makes it their song. It is about Elvis Presley and there are a lot of song titles referenced in the lyrics like Jailhouse Rock, Heartbreak Hotel and Love Me Tender. The Velvet part is in reference to those Black Velvet posters that were made of Elvis that glowed in black light. Really cool actually. Elvis and Velvet have been written about many times including “Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles and many others.

The opening drum sound by Slim Jim Phantom is pretty killer. It is reminiscent of David Bowie’s “Modern Love” and has that same groove. Maybe sped up quite a lot, but its there. It grabs you. Then bring in Lee Rocker’s bass and the groove is all set and ready to blast off. With Brian Setzer on guitar and vocals it is all so captivating. I love how Brian delivers the lyrics. They are so controlled, deliberate and rapid fire and sang with a lot of power and attitude. I can feel Elvis curling that lip. Throw in a killer guitar solo that lays waste to your ears and even those licks he plays as the song fades out are simply stellar. You have all the makings of one of the greatest rockabilly rock songs ever done. At least to me that is.

Kiss – ‘Off the Soundboard: San Antonio, TX 12-3-1985’ (2025) – Album Review (The Kiss Review Series)

It has been a couple years since we received any new ‘Off the Sounboard’ albums from Kiss. They were busy ending their touring career and selling off the rights on their image and catalog. Now that things are settled, we are back with the newest ‘Off the Sounboard’ and this is the 6th album in the series. This was was filmed in San Antonio, Texas on December 3, 1985 at HemisFair Arena, which puts right in to the Asylum Tour. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first one we get with Bruce Kulick on guitar. This means we are only missing one from the Vinnie Vincent era as all other members have been covered so far. The rest of the band is of course, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons with Eric Carr on drums. A great lineup of the band.

For this one, Kiss changed things up. It is still similar in packaging in the flimsy brown cardboard box, but instead of a plan brown cover with a stamped on logo, they actually added a picture of the band. However, jury is still out if I like the change or not. It does change the look when you place it against the others, but it is still kinda cool. But the thing that really pisses me off is on how they were offered. You could only get the vinyl on Kiss Online and you could only get it in a bundle which means I had to buy a T-Shirt as well which jacks up the already over-inflated price. There was only the color version of the vinyl and not a standard black and there was NO CD!! Well, there was no CD anywhere in the world except for Japan. So, CDJapan received another big order from me as I want to make sure I get enough stuff to make the shipping worth it. I have to say, the choices on what we were able to buy were limited and very disappointing.

The Collection: Ep. 66 – Billy Idol’s ‘Dream Into It’ – Album Review

This week on the Collection, we are going to show off the new CD and Vinyl for Billy Idol’s new album, ‘Dream Into It’. And why we are it, we will throw in an album review. I know I’ve already posted an album review of this on the site, but this is the YouTube show and it is a slightly different audience. I felt it needed to be in both places. It has been 11 years since we’ve had a full length studio album from Billy Idol. His last one was 2014 with ‘Kings And Queens of the Underground’. He has had a couple of 4 song E.P.’s since then, but no full album of new music. Now, the time is upon us. After he did those two E.P.’s, he realized the press on those was as much as a full length album so why not simply do a full album and we are glad he did. Let’s get to it!

Kiss – ‘Live in Maryland 1977’ – Album Review (The Kiss Bootleg Series)

I have been doing a Kiss Bootleg Series for years. You get a review every time I add a new one to the collection. Well, after buying 38 Bootleg CDs from John Humphrey’s personal collection, I figured let’s jump right back in and do a whole lot of reviews on the Bootlegs. Oh, if you don’t know who John Humphrey is, you need to know he is a massive Kiss collector. And he is the drummer of the band Seether. John decided to sell off his entire collection…sort of…he kept all the vinyl (like 4,000 of them). He did it through an auction at Backstage Auctions and I had to have a piece of it…and I did wind up with some things.

The next bootleg up is ‘Live in Maryland 1977’. This was was recorded at the Capital Centre in Largo, MD way back on December 20, 1977 for the Kiss Alive II Tour. According to various spots on the internet, this show was actually recorded on video with expectations to be used for the American Music Awards show, but I don’t think were ever used. You do get those show in an edited format as the bonus disc on Kissology Vol. 1 from the Wal-Mart edition sold. This recording we have here on CD is that version as it is not a full show.

What does that mean of the sound, well, if you’ve seen the video, you know it sounds fantastic. The quality is great as it was taken from the DVD, I’m sure. Happy to have that show, even if edited, on CD. This particular disc was released in 2014 and is in a digipak. The pictures used on the back cover and inside are pretty grainy and are probably copies of a copy. It is only 1 CD and a soundboard recording.

Billy Idol – ‘Dream Into It’ (2025) – Album Review (The Billy Idol Series)

It has been 11 years since we’ve had a full length studio album from Billy Idol. His last one was 2014 with ‘Kings And Queens of the Underground’. He has had a couple of 4 song E.P.’s since then, but no full album of new music. Now, the time is upon us. After he did those two E.P.’s, he realized the press on those was as much as a full length album so why not simply do a full album and we are glad he did. The album was released on April 25, 2025 and it went to #79 in the U.K., but Switzerland saw it go to #3 and Germany it was #2. How did it fare in the U.S.? Well, it was Billy’s first ever Top 10 album as it went to #7. Not bad Billy…not bad at all!

The interesting about this release is that it is a concept album and it is broken down in to two parts. Part 1 is called “Dying to Love” and is Side One on the vinyl. This side is focused on the past and sees Billy being nostalgic and focusing on his early years. Part 2 is called, “I’m Reborn” and is Side Two of the album. The focus here is more forward looking on his life now which sees him now as Grandpa and in love with a great family. Cool to see someone that almost died from his drug use and rock & roll lifestyle to be an older rocker and simply loving life. He seems to be in a good place.

I ended up buying both the CD and the vinyl simply because I collect everything Billy so had to have both versions. We get 9 songs, but really only 8 new ones as one of the song is a remake of the song “John Wayne” which was on hit 2008 greatest hits album called The Very Best of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself. This time around it is a duet and we will get to that later. A little disappointing that we didn’t get 10 new songs. I was worried he was going to re-use some of the songs from his last two E.P.’s, but thankfully that was not the case. But we do a good some good stuff and some okay stuff, so let’s get to the music.

The Collection: Ep. 64 – ‘Off the Soundboard: San Antonio, TX 12-3-1985’ by Kiss – Album Review

This week on the collection, we are going to show of the new Kiss ‘Off the Soundboard’ release we have on both vinyl and CD. The show is from San Antonio, TX recorded on December 3, 1985 and is the first ‘Off the Soundboard’ release to feature Bruce Kulick on guitar. The tour was for ‘Asylum’ which is one of the tours I saw and I actually saw the show later that month in 1985 in Atlanta. We will talk the packaging, the crappy things Kiss Online store do and talk the show itself.
