I know, I know…if you read this blog regularly you know this is completely out of left field for the site. Katy Perry actually has a special place in my heart. Her first three Katy Perry albums were when my kids were really little. They loved her and would act out the songs almost daily and we have some great videos capturing those special moments. And when we were in the car, they would sing at the top of their lungs when her songs came out. As a result, when I hear those songs today, it takes me back to those amazingly fun times with my kids. She has been able to imprint a memory with her songs and that is hard to do. My oldest is away and at college and I have to say I miss her terribly. So to keep her in my thoughts, I figured why not rank all Katy’s albums from worst to first.
You might not know that Katy Perry came out with her first album back in 2001 when she was Katy Hudson and a Christian singer, then she became a sugary, sweet pop princess and for awhile she ruled the airwaves. Now she’s a judge on American Idol and she still puts out albums, but the massive fame and craziness has slowed down a little (at least on the radio). Like her or not, she was the driving force in the industry and what she did, people noticed and paid attention.
We are only going to go through her studio albums, no live albums or E.P.’s or any compilations (which I am not sure she has one yet). So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy and maybe learn something new.
We are ending August with a BANG!! There are an abundance of releases this week and there has to be something for you to grab hold of and listen to all weekend. I am listing 18 different releases and you know I don’t ever have all of them so that is a boatload of stuff. I have a bunch I am eager to hear and 2 on order. My choices are highlighted in Blue and I can tell you right now, I doubt I will get to all of them this week as there are so many. Let me know which ones you are interested in hearing and which ones I may have a missed. Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!!
Needtobreathe – Out of Body – (Elektra): Is there any doubt this one would be tops for me. I am a huge fan, but a worried fan as guitarist and a very creative mind behind the band, Bo Rinehart has left the band. I don’t know how much he put in to this album, if anything, but that has me a little concerned as direction and what to expect. The one thing they did that I don’t particularly don’t care for is they released like 5 songs already. I am not a fan of bands doing that.
Metallica – S&M 2 (Live) – (Blackened Recording): I actually enjoyed the original S&M so I am curious to hear this one as well. Metallica and classical music I think are a good match. And the song they released already was pretty great.
The year is almost over so it is time to look back at what was awesome in music during the year. I have already looked back at the Top Rock Albums of 2017 (click to read). This list will cover all other genres that I listened to over the year including Pop, Country, Christian and whatever other genre you want classify these albums. Rock is my favorite genre and that is why it gets it’s own list, but that doesn’t take away from any of these choices as I think they are great on their own.
Note: These albums were my favorites and not necessarily the most played on the radio (which I hate the radio) or even the biggest sellers. There aren’t the trendy indie bands on everyone else’s top albums list. These are just what I came across during the year and connected with me in some way. So, we might as well get started…
The #1 Album of 2017
Colton Dixon – ‘Identity’: What??? Not Taylor or Harry or Ed?? Nope!!! Colton Dixon’s album ‘Identity’ was the album that did it for me this year. Colton’s very pop album, but a Christian based album, is what I found to be best this past year. The album was a loosely based concept album which was broken down into 3 parts – The Mind, The Body & The Soul. He was able to rock out, dance, and slow it down all with precision. You couldn’t help getting caught up in the messages of the songs and I am still listening to it even though it came out real early in the year. That says something right there.
It is time to make you laugh, make you smile or make you mad…either way…I am good. We made it through Monday, now we need some laughs. This week we focus on an easy target, Katy Perry. Love her or hate her, she will make you at least feel one these things. And she was absolutely horrible hosting the VMAs on Sunday!!!! It wasn’t all her fault, the writing was plain awful.
My family has loved her for years. My two girls enjoyed her last few album and my wife and oldest daughter were going to go see her in concert in September. She has since cancelled her show in Charlotte and she claims it was a scheduling conflict, but if that was the case wouldn’t you just reschedule the show?? We think it was poor ticket sales.
Now on to the memes…
For the featured image, I love how they did “you’re move”…people are freakin’ idiots. So he is saying “you are move Katy Perry”…makes no sense.
For those new to the site, I have a page that contains a list of the New Releases out now or coming in the very near future. I update it weekly (mostly weekly). The list is of all albums I am interested in, albums I have heard about, or albums that are getting a lot of buzz. Hopefully you can find something you can’t wait to get your hands on.
I also post the Friday New Releases every Friday for those great releases that are coming out that day to keep you in the loop. Keep an eye out for those.
There is a link at the top of the home page that you can go to every time you visit. Or you can just click right here on NEW RELEASES. Below is the current list as of this morning. I recently added Kenny Wayne Shepard Band, George Thorogood, Katy Perry, Imagine Dragons, Styx and so many more…I hope you enjoy
2017 is upon us and always fun anticipating what new albums are and will come out in the year. There are quite a few we already know about, but some haven’t been officially announced or even a date set yet. From what I have gathered around the internet, here are the bands that should have new albums out in 2017, but no dates announced yet. The ones I want will be highlighted in Blue.
2013 was an interesting year for me with the music that came out. Either I listened to an album over and over or it just didn’t get listened to but a couple times and I was done. This list are the albums that I just couldn’t get enough of during the year. Based on my picks this year, I would say Rock had a great year!! Here we go:
Scott Stapp – “Proof of Life” – This was my album of the Year for 2013. Yes, the man from Creed delivered an album that was both very personal and very relatable. I enjoyed this album immensely and have just devoured it since the day it came out. I can’t say enough positive things about this album. It had great flow from beginning to end and every song moved me in some way. He was not afraid to talk about Jesus and his faith in this album and I applaud him for it. It was the album I never knew he was capable of delivering. My favorite songs were “Only One”, “Jesus is a Rockstar”, “Slow Suicide”, “New Day Coming” and “What Would Love Do”…honestly they are all awesome. I hope he gets his act together and releases more music. Give this one a listen!!!
