Friday New Releases – November 8th

Happy Friday and yes, the weekend is upon us!! Thankfully we have some new tuneage to get us through the weekend.  There are a lot of releases today and hopefully you will find something to make this weekend a rocking good time.  I have quite a few I am excited to hear, however, not running out to buy anything yet until I hear them first (Thank goodness for streaming as it saves me money sometimes).  My choices are highlighted in Blue.  Let me know what interests you or even what I might have missed as it has been known to happen.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!!

  • 81VAZDOCfuL._SX522_.jpg  Work of Arts – Exhibit – (Frontiers Records):  Thanks to Melodicrock.com, I came across this band.  If you know the Jeff Scott Soto band W.E.T., the “W” is for Work of Art member Robert Sall who is in W.E.T.  This band is an awesome piece if melodic rock in the same vein as maybe Toto and Journey and other bands of that ilk.  Give it a try as I think you will like it.

  • 913SqUH3ftL._SX522_.jpg  Pretty Maids – Undress Your Madness – (Frontiers Records):  In what might be their 16th album (so many I have lost track), this hard rock band out of Denmark always deliver solid work and I am interested to hear what they have brought the table this time around.  They rarely disappoint.

The Cars – The Albums Ranked Worst to First

The Cars.  What can be said about them that hasn’t already been said.  They are one of the greatest new wave bands to ever come along and an inspiration to many.  Their brand of power pop ruled the airwaves from the Debut in 1978 all the way to 1984 before they started to fade away from the scene, but never faded away from our hearts.

The band was inducted in to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 and the band was all there except for Benjamin Orr who died in 2000.  It was really cool to see the band together again and play a few songs.  The classic line-up consisted of the following members:

  • Ric Ocasek – Vocals, rhythm guitar
  • Elliot Easton – lead guitar
  • Greg Hawkes – keyboards
  • Benjamin Orr – bass, lead vocals
  • David Robinson – drums

We most recently we lost Ric Ocasek in 2019.  As I did when Orr died, upon Ric’s death I pulled out The Cars catalog and went through it over and over again.  It reminded me of how great these guys were and what a catalog of music they left behind.  As a result, I decided to do an album ranking to see what was the worst album all the way up to the best. Let’s see where they stack up.

WORST – PANORAMA (1980):

Friday New Releases – November 1st

Here we are the 1st day of November and do we have a lot to be “Thankful” for this week with the new releases?  Depends on your taste.  There are some juicy ones this week for me, but nothing I am going to run and buy…however, streaming will do nicely here.  My choices are highlighted in Blue.  Let me know what you are digging this week and if I missed anything.  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend.

  • 518jRU2pYmL  Miranda Lambert – Wildcard – (Vanner Records/Sony):  I don’t like Country music that much, but I like Miranda.  She’s fiesty, she’s firey and she’s kinda hot!!  She is someone my whole family likes and we enjoy listening to her in the car as a whole.  And I am just glad my kids don’t have me on video sining “Little Red Wagon” from her earlier work…it is quite embarrassing as I add my own flair to that song that the kids find quite funny.  But that ain’t this album.  I haven’t heard anything yet, but have heard good things so I will check it out.

  • download-4.jpg  Hootie & the Blowfish – Imperfect Circle – (Capitol Records):  After 14 years, Hootie & the Blowfish are BACK!!  Darius Rucker is taking a break from his very successful Country career to reignite the Hootie light.  And kids from the 90’s rejoice!!  Their blend of Pop Rock was a huge hit in the 90’s.  Can it translate into something cool in the 21st Century?  We will have to see.

October Purchases – Vinyl & CDs

I realized I have been making a lot of purchases and yet not everything makes its way on to the site.  I figured I would do a wrap up each month of all my purchasing I have made even if they made it on the site during the month or even might make it on to the site down the road.

And this month started out with a bang!  A brand new record store opened up in Charlotte, NC called Noble Records.  They opened on October 5th which was a Saturday and because of that I got their bright and early.  Not grand opening 10am early, but I got there before 11am.  I had to take my daughter to her tutoring class at 10 and family comes first…then vinyl…sorry then God, then vinyl!!  Okay, maybe more order is skewed, but you get it.

I found two album I have been wanting and I had to grab them as I don’t seem them that often and one was a first pressing (not the RAGE album).

Rage Against the Machine ‘Renegades’ and The Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East (1st pressing pink label)

I then found two more albums one I for some reason didn’t have in my collection as it is one of the most popular albums of the 70’s and the other is a 12″ Single from Stryper just in time for Christmas.

Friday New Releases – October 25th

We are to the final week of October and Halloween is right around the corner.  I don’t see any scary releases this week except maybe Lea Michele’s Christmas album…that one looks truly frightening and I will stay as far away as I possibly can from that one.  Me, i plan on scaring up a couple for sure and maybe give two others a try.  They are marked in Blue.  Let me know what interests you and what I might have missed.  I hope you find something and have a great weekend!

  • 9113CV5UhSL._SS500_.jpg  Airbourne – Boneshaker – (Spinefarm Records):  The boys from down under are back with another earth shattering, bone rattling rocker.  I have this one on order and the vinyl should be there when I get home. I have everything else they have done on vinyl so why not this one.  If you like AC/DC, you will like this.  They are loud, aggressive and fantastic.  Turn it up and let them blow your ears right off.

  • 91uELDXSA5L._SX522_.jpg  James Blunt – Once Upon a Mind – (Atlantic Records):  And if you want something a little more in the pop arena you won’t find anything better than James Blunt.  His unique voice, great story telling and song writing are always entertaining and worth quite a few spins.  Plus, the man is hilarious.  I saw him live and his self-deprecating humor really made me a fan.  HIs last album, ‘The Afterlove’ was amazing and so I have high expectations for this, his 6th album.

Friday New Releases – October 18th

Another great Friday of releases is upon us.  There aren’t a ton this week, but there are some I am eager to get ahold of.  Those choices will be highlighted in Blue.  This list is mostly rock and metal, but there is one country album and a pop/alternative release as well.  Hopefully you will find something you like.  I know I have.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.

  • 810OcozS5IL._SX522_.jpg  Stone Temple Pilots – Purple (25th Anniversary) – (Rhino Entertainment):  I can’t believe it has been 25 years since ‘Purple’ has been released.  That is crazy!!  This was the album that got me in to STP as I hadn’t jumped on the whole 90’s music bandwagon by the time their debut album came out.  I was still strongly entrenched in the 80’s music.  But this one had so much guitar and the swagger of Scott Weiland won me over.  I can’t wait to get this set with all the bonus material…plus it is on CD and Vinyl!!

  • 81ZMllDLXwL._SX522_  Alter Bridge – Walk the Sky – (Napalm Records):  When Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy get together, you know it is going to rock and be amazing and I expect nothing less from this, their 6th album.    This is basically Creed with Myles Kennedy on vocals as the rest of the band, Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips as well as Mark are all from Creed.  What is still cool is that after 15 years, it is still the same 4 guys.  Ok, they are not really Creed I was generalizing, but they are still awesome.

Friday New Releases – October 8th

Another great Friday of new releases this week.  I’m telling you this is shaping up to be a great month.  I have another item this week on order that will hopefully be there when I get home from work.  We have lot of Rock this week which is always good, but so much so that there is no way I will get to it all…ever!  My choices are highlighted in Blue.  Let me know what I missed and what you might be interested in hearing.  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful music weekend.  I know I will!!

  • michaelsweettencd  Michael Sweet – Ten – (Frontiers Records):  Lead singer of Stryper is here with his 10th solo release…10 is hard to believe, but it is true. I just did a Michael Sweet album ranking and can’t wait to see where this falls on the list.  I am hoping for some hard and heavy stuff.  Check out the song below and go gran this one.

  • 71yVfmGk8RL._AC_UL115_.jpg  Eclipse – Paradigm – (Frontiers Records):  I love this band.  This Swedish rock band is now on their 8th album and it is pure melodic rock, glam rock, hair metal bliss.  They seem to be getting better with age kind of like a fine wine.  Give them a try.

Tuesday’s Memes – The Cure

Who doesn’t like Robert Smith and The Cure?  Let me see those hands…keep them up, I’m still counting.  I can’t count that high, okay put them down, let’s move on.  Today we are going to celebrate all things The Cure in this collection of memes.  I have been all around the internet gathering memes for the band.  And it took all of like 10 minutes as there are so many.  I hope you enjoy them!

Friday, I’m In Love…

Friday New Releases – October 4th

Welcome to October and the first Friday of new releases for the month.  And what a month this will be. I already have something on order for every Friday of the month so it will be my favorite day of the week.  Who are we kidding, it already is my favorite day.  Now even more so.  There are only 2 releases I really care about this week and they are highlighted in Blue. Let me know what has your interest peaked this week or if I missed anything.  Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!!

  • 81Ygt6wO5yL._SX522_  The Darkness – Easter is Cancelled – (Canary Dwarf LTD):  The Darkness returns with their sixth studio album and if you love that whole retro glam rock feel, then this will be right up your alley.  No one does Glam today like these guys do.  From the ear-piercing falsettos to the screeching guitars, it is all a blast and this should be no different.  Check them out.

  • 9145LZlryQL._SX522_.jpg  Whitesnake – Slip of the Tongue (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) – (Rhino Records):  Whitesnake brings us yet another box set celebrating one of their big albums.  This is the 3rd and the 30th Anniversary Edition of ‘Slip of the Tongue’.  The other two were ‘Slide it In’ and ‘1987’ and the were fantastic.  Full of live songs, rare songs and remixes and remasters and everything you could want and this one is no different.  This is on order but it will NOT be home when I get there as for some reason Amazon isn’t giving me release day delivery.  I’m a little pissed, but I guess I will get over it.  Check out David’s unboxing video below…

David Hasselhoff – ‘Open Your Eyes’ – Album Review

When I head David Hasselhoff (or The Hoff) was putting out a new album of cover songs, I told myself that I have to listen to this for the train wreck that it is going to be.  I mean The Hoff has never been popular in the States for his vocal talent and yet, I was intrigued.

David has put together an eclectic list of covers and the most interesting part is the line-up of musicians he was able to get to assist with these covers.  Let’s look at the cover songs and those individuals who helped out.

Track List:

  1. Open Your Eyes (Feat. James Williamson of The Stooges) – Lords of the New Church Cover
  2. Head On (Feat. Elliot Easton of The Cars) – The Jesus & Mary Chain Cover
  3. I Melt With You (Feat. Steve Stevens) – Modern English Cover
  4. Lips Like Sugar (Feat. A Flock of Seagulls) – Echo & The Bunnymen Cover
  5. Heroes (Feat. Composer Tyler Bates) – David Bowie Cover
  6. Here I Go Again (Feat. Tracii Guns) – Whitesnake Cover
  7. Jump in My Car (Feat. Todd Rundgren) – Ted Murley Gang Cover
  8. Rhinestone Cowboy (Feat. Charlie Daniels) – Glen Campbell Cover
  9. If You Could Read My Mind (Feat. Ava Cherry) – Gordon Lightfoot Cover
  10. Sugar Sugar (Feat. Steve Cropper) – The Archies Cover
