This time around, we have a little bonus edition for you. There is no dramatic story behind this release, it is simple a way to give the fans something kind of cool and the band a little more money. There are no new songs or remixes, these are all songs you already have in some way shape or form. On November 13, 2012, Kiss released the box set, ‘The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982’ collection. It houses all 29 singles the band released on Casablanca Records. They have all been digitally remastered and given some very collectible sleeves from the original single releases from around the world.

Now, this is not going to be review of each song, been there done that with all of the album reviews. No, this is going to be a picture review of the entire box set. You are going to see everything there is to see in this box set. There are over 90 pictures so sit back and enjoy. We will do them in order of each album, but first we will start with the box set itself and the booklet. I hope you enjoy…

The box set is literally housed in a box. There is a flap on the side you open and all the singles and booklet slide right in. It is nice and sturdy. There is a cool effect on the front where the box there is an empty space with a fiery red, orange and yellow swirled backing that gives the Kiss logo its fiery appearance. The box also has an etched metal plaque engraved with the name “The Casablanca Singles 1974-1982 Limited Edition”. But here is the big question…What’s in the Box??

Now that is a lot of stuff. The first thing we will discuss is the Casablanca Singles booklet. It is filled of information on each song including the chart history as well as stunning and historic pictures of the band. My copy has never been opened and is really stiff and to be honest, I don’t plan on opening any more than taking a picture for this post so you have an idea of what you get. My version will stay in mint condition.

Are you ready to visit the singles? I thought so. First up are the singles from the debut album ‘Kiss’…

‘KISS’ (1974)

The first 3 singles did not have a beautiful picture sleeve so these are housed in a plain white cardboard sleeve. The first single was ‘Nothin’ To Lose” with the B-Side being ‘Love Theme from Kiss’. The second single is ‘Kissin’ Time’ with the B-Side being ‘Nothin’ to Lose’. And the final single was ‘Strutter’ with the B-Side of ‘100,000 Years’…and this is cool combo of songs…

‘HOTTER THAN HELL’ (1974)

The band’s second album only saw one single. This one is housed in the German sleeve and is the same picture on the front and the back. The single was “Let Me Go, Rock ‘N’ Roll” with the B-Side being “Hotter Than Hell”.

“DRESSED TO KILL’ (1975)

‘Dressed to Kill’ had two singles and both had the same B-Sides. Very strange. The first single was “Rock And Roll All Nite” and this one has the Holland Sleeve. The second single was “C’mon And Love Me” and it comes with the Japan Sleeve. Both singles B-Sides were the song “Getaway”.

‘ALIVE!’ (1974)

The Kiss ‘Alive!’ album only had one single and it was the band’s biggest hit at the time. It is the live version of “Rock And Roll All Nite” which would become the band’s most popular song and their trademark song. The B-Side was the studio version of “Rock And Roll All Nite”. The single was housed in the Germany Sleeve. The picture is the same on both sides.

‘DESTROYER’ (1976)

Now Kiss has made it big time and ‘Destroyer’ has four singles released. The singles are “Shout if Out Loud” with “Sweet Pain” as the B-Side and housed in the Japan Sleeve. “Flaming Youth” is up next with “Good of Thunder” as the B-Side housed in the U.S. Sleeve. Then we get “Detroit Rock City” with “Beth” as the B-Side and housed in the Japan Sleeve”. Since “Beth” became popular it was released as a single with “Detroit Rock City” as the B-Side and housed in the Germany Sleeve.

‘ROCK & ROLL OVER’ (1976)

‘Rock & Roll Over’ had two singles released. The first was “Hard Luck Woman” with “Mr. Speed” as the B-Side. The second single was “Calling Dr. Love” with “Take Me” as the B-Side. Both singles are housed in the Germany edition of the Sleeve.

‘LOVE GUN’ (1977)

‘Love Gun’ like its predecessor, only had two singles as well. The first was “Christine Sixteen” with “Shock Me” as the B-Side in the France edition of the Sleeve. Second was “Love Gun” with “Hooligan” as the B-Side housed in the Sweden Sleeve.

‘ALIVE II’ (1977)

‘Alive II’ had two singles as well. The first on was the live versions of “Shout it Out Loud” as the A-Side and “Nothin’ To Lose” as the B-Side housed in the Germany Sleeve. The second single had the studio song “Rocket Ride” with the live version of “Tomorrow And Tonight” as the B-Side which was housed in the Germany Sleeve as well.

‘DOUBLE PLATINUM’ (1978)

‘Double Platinum’ only had one single and that was a remixed version of “Strutter” called “Strutter ’78”. The B-Side was “Shock Me” and it was housed in the Germany Sleeve. I guess being a compilation, the hits speak for themselves so no other singles needed.

THE SOLO ALBUMS (1978)

The Solo albums each had a single with the exception of Peter who had two as his wasn’t selling very well so it needed more of a push. Each single came with a bonus insert that folded out into a Mask of each singer. Also, the vinyl is even more special as it is done in the color of the singer. Peter’s second single was regular black vinyl. All are housed in the U.K. Sleeve except Peter’s second single was in the Germany Sleeve. This is the coolest set of the bunch.

PAUL STANLEY:

Paul’s single was for “Hold Me, Touch Me” with the B-Side being “Goodbye” and it comes in the Purple vinyl.

ACE FREHLEY:

Ace’s single was for “New York Groove” and the B-Side is “Snow Blind. The single, of course, is on Blue Vinyl.

GENE SIMMONS:

Gene’s single was “Radioactive” with “See You In Your Dreams” as the B-Side and in the Red Vinyl.

PETER CRISS:

Peter’s first single was “You Matter to me” with the B-Side “Hooked on Rock & Roll” on the green vinyl. The other single was “Don’t You Let Me Down” with the B-Side as “Hooked On Rock & Roll” and was on the standard black vinyl.

‘DYNASTY’ (1979)

‘Dynasty” saw two singles and the first being the disco hit “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” with the B-Side “Hard Times” which was not disco…thank god. The second single was “Sure Know Something” with “Dirty Livin'” as the B-Side. Both are housed in the Germany Sleeves. Notice the back of the first single as the album cover for “Dynasty” was not known yet.

‘UNMASKED’ (1980)

‘Unmasked’ also had two singles and the first was the Australian smash single “Shandi” with the B-Side “She’s So European” housed in the Holland Sleeve. The second single is “Tomorrow” with the B-Side “Naked City” (my favorite) housed in the Japan Sleeve.

‘MUSIC FROM THE ELDER’ (1981)

We only get one single from “The Elder” and that is “A World Without Heroes” with the B-Side being “Dark Light”. It was housed in the Spain edition of the Sleeve.

‘CREATURES OF THE NIGHT’ (1982)

The final single in the set is for the song “I Love It Loud” with “Danger” as the B-Side. My favorite album and should’ve been more singles. The single is housed in the U.S. Sleeve.

And that is everything. Man, that is a lot of stuff. Now, I am not rating this box set as it is something for diehard fans only. You can get this set in CD Singles or in Vinyl and as you can see, my set is the vinyl edition. I love this set, but I doubt if I will pull any of these out and play. They are more for show and tell and will be nice piece in my collection. I have been collecting the actual singles from that time period as I can find them. It will be cool if I someday get them all. For now, I have to this set to admire. Thanks for hanging around so long and here is one final picture of the whole set…
